Parental Leave Pay is the national minimum wage, $200.94 a day before tax in 2026-27. What you personally get depends on the baby's date of birth and whether you are the birth parent or the partner. Answer below and the dollars are worked out for you.
The maths, by hand
If you would rather check it yourself.
Parental Leave Pay is a daily rate. Multiply the days you will take by the rate for the financial year you take them in. Days are business days, so a week is 5 days.
| Financial year | A day | A 5 day week |
|---|---|---|
| 2025-26 | $189.62 | $948.10 |
| 2026-27 | $200.94 | $1,004.70 |
How many days the family gets, and how many are held back for the partner, depends on the date of birth.
| Child born or adopted | Family total | Reserved for each parent | Partner floor at 2026-27 rate | Partner ceiling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 | 110 days | 10 days | $2,009 | $20,094 |
| 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 | 120 days | 15 days | $3,014 | $21,099 |
| on or after 1 July 2026 | 130 days | 20 days | $4,019 | $22,103 |
The floor is the days reserved for you. The ceiling is everything except the days reserved for the other parent. Where you land between them is a conversation with your partner, not a rule.
All figures are before tax. Parental Leave Pay is taxable income. For children born or adopted from 1 July 2025 the scheme also pays a superannuation contribution.
